Today’s Brixton Street ♥ You feature comes courtesy of Illinois Nut & Candy Company’s Raising The Candy Bar!
Well, it’s Valentine’s Day at last and although it’s more than just a little cliché, we just could not resist featuring something chocolate today. The chocolate we’ve handpicked to share with you is the almond bark ($14.99/lb) from Illinois Nut and Candy. Why this specific chocolate? Well, for starters, it comes packaged in a very pretty box, but the chocolate itself has a rustic sort of charm to it which we love. The pieces are cut into squares which aren’t all exactly the same size which serves to give the chocolate a little bit of extra character. Another reason we picked out this chocolate: it’s a dairy free, lactose free, and casein free chocolate that can also be enjoyed by those on certain restricted diets.
The almond bark comes cut into generously sized squares that are full of a deep chocolate flavor, along with a sprinkling of crunchy almonds in the interior. The pieces are actually quite large so we used a knife to poke at the middle of each piece to break it in half… then the middle of those pieces to break them in half… and voilà… little bite sized squares of chocolate (see the last image below for our little chocolate reconstruction). We loved that these chocolates were so easy to chop into smaller sizes without making a huge mess!
The flavor of the chocolate is great- a slight bitterness, a delicate sweetness, and a smooth, melty consistency. Definitely one of our new favorite chocolates to have around the house & share with friends and family

You can find various chocolates and other candies on the Illinous Nut & Candy website in vegan, organic, gluten free, pareve and other varieties: Illinois Nut & Candy carries a very extensive selection of niche products (and they all look super tasty).
