Sephora Hot Now : Buxom : Waterproof Smoky Eye Stick

The Waterproof Smoky Eye Stick by Buxom ($18 at Sephora.com) is a 3-in-1 product that is designed to (1) shadow, (2) line, and (3) smoke. According to the Sephora website, the product is a “versatile eye stick”  and “your secret weapon for sexy, smoky eyes”.  Smoky definitely being the keyword here.

I had the opportunity to sample Buxom’s Waterproof Smoky Eye Stick in Smokin’ Pistol, a beautiful, vibrant ink black shade- my absolute favorite liner color!

I found the packaging for the product itself to be extremely eye-catching.  The stick form is super portable with a presentation that is attractive (love that reflective surface), lightweight, and streamlined.  The fact that this product is so streamlined made me completely oblivious to the fact that the stick is equipped with a removable sharpener inside the colored base.

(1) As a shadow:  In my younger years I was ALL about black shadows, and if I had this product back then, I probably would fared much better.  The consistency of the product is super smooth, buildable, and smudges easily to give you a really nice smoky eye.   Other than having a really lovely color and consistency, one of the major benefits of this product is that it is waterproof- always a good companion for a smoky eye!

(2) As a liner:  The vast majority of the time I only line my upper lash line (using liquid eyeliner). To line my upper lids with the Smoky Eye Stick, I used an angled brush right to swipe the surface of the product and build up the line.   It took me a few layers to obtain the solid, inky black line that I was looking for and in the process quite a few tiny chunks/flakes of the product were left behind in my lashes or in the line I had just created.  Those flakes ultimately fell into my eyes leaving them red and irritated.  I found that this product works much better for lining the lower lids: simply apply directly and then smudge thoroughly with the fingers or a brush.  Lining and then smudging really helps to minimize the flakes.  In my own experience with the product I’ve found that smudging is really key.

(3) Smoking : The product is super creamy so it creates a vibrant color and much better smoky effect compared to the pencil liners I’ve used in the past.  Compared to the shadows I’ve used in the past, it is also much less prone to smearing or settling into creases (due to the waterproof effect).

The non tl;dr summary: Great for a smoky effect on the top lids or lower lash line, smuding is key!
