I really love statement pieces- those bold, expressive accessories that reflect and radiate my individual sense of style… however, I’ve always found it difficult to find that delicate balance between bold and wearable. One statement piece that I’d been long seeking out, but could never seem to find was an oversized watch. Because an oversized watch is a statement in itself, I wanted something classic and timeless, rather than something garish and flashy. No excessive use of metallics, no overabundance of gemstones.
2015 has marked the year that I’ve finally found my perfect oversized watch, the beautiful Highgate Watch (Style HL39-CS-0009, £125) from Henry London. What I love most about this watch is that it has such a timeless look with its simple silver, rose gold, and black colour palette. It’s a beautiful watch that will fit seamlessly into any wardrobe. At 39mm, this is also a nice unisex watch, which means double duty as an oversize watch for me and a classic, perfectly sized watch for him. For those that prefer to go either smaller or larger with their watch size, in addition to the 39mm, the Highgate also comes in 30mm and 41mm sizes.
The watch comes packaged in a beautiful hard, clamshell case (which is further packaged in a similarly designed cardboard box, not pictured), so the presentation is really wonderful. The inside of the case is fully lined in a soft satiny fabric.
From the Henry London website: “In addition to the conventional hour, minute & seconds hands, the Highgate 39mm model features a calendar window at 6 o’clock which changes at midnight, day after day. The three sub-dial instruments each perform different chronograph functions. The 6 o’clock dial measures elapsed seconds, the 9 o’clock dial measures minutes whilst the third indicates the time in 24 hour format.”
If you place an order through the Henry London website, you also have the option of having your watch engraved (an additional £10). While this service was offered to me, I declined the offer on this particular order because I thought I might share this watch to take advantage of it’s unisex style. I must say I’ve grown quite fond of this watch and I’ll now consider sharing.
As mentioned previously, the thing I love most about this watch is its simple and timeless design, which ultimately allows for the most flexibility in styling. While I love to wear the watch on its own, I also love styling & accessorizing it in endless ways. From something simple (like thin silver bangles [Alex & Ani]) to something more bold (like statement making multistrand chains [Fleet Jewelry]), the Highgate watch always looks great when paired with other jewellery. There are endless amounts of combinations and possibilities!
I was actually lucky enough to win this watch in a Henry London Twitter competition, so you should definitely give them a follow because you might be able to win one of your own! As I start to style this watch more with complete outfits, I’ll try to provide some full outfit updates in the future!
